DEPARTMENTS AT EDUCARE INSTITUTE OF DENTAL SCIENCES
1. DEPARTMENT OF ORAL MEDICINE AND MAXILLOFACIAL RADIOLOGY
Oral Medicine: “We bring Medicine to Dentistry”. Our branch serves as a bridge between the two professions. Oral Medicine is the discipline of dentistry concerned with the oral health care of medically complex patients - including the diagnosis and management of medical conditions that affect the oral and maxillofacial region. We treat patients with TMJ Disorders, Burning Mouth, Taste and Smell Disorders, Orofacial and Tooth Pain, Facial Neuralgias, Viral, Bacterial and Fungal Infections and Benign growths of oral cavity. Our doctors have treated thousands of patients whose underlying medical condition affects oral health and delivery of dental care. Our department receives outpatient visits of around 100 to 150 patients daily from various parts of Malappuram. Our college is also the first to have a completely digitized patient management software system implemented and is going for a completely paper free campus.
Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology: We use x-rays to make images of the inside of the teeth and bones—areas that are not seen when the dentist looks into the mouth. The information from these x-ray images (or radiographs) helps us diagnose dental decay, periodontal disease, and infections in patient’s jaws and some rare conditions like cysts and tumors of the jaw. A dentist needs this information in order to provide the best treatment options for patient’s needs. Our college is the only college in northern Kerala to have installed the State of the art Cone Beam CT Scanning Machine which gives a whole new dimension to the practice of dentistry.
2. DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH DENTISTRY
The department recognizes the necessities of the community and has undertaken serious initiative to reach out to the disadvantaged population in the urban and rural areas in and around our initiation.

4. DEPARTMENT OF CONSERVATIVE DENTISTRY AND ENDODONTICS
Step into the department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics at Educare Institute of Dental Sciences, and you will probably walk out with the impression that this is one of the most busiest departments in this college. This could be partly due to the fact that very often, if not always, our Department has to work in alliance with other departments to ensure the best treatment procedures are meted out to the patient. A few commonly seen examples include: Endo-perio for endodontic cases with related periodontal (gum disease, and bone loss); Oral surgery and endo in cases requiring apicoectomy,.hemisection, extraction cases etc. Ortho department requires our help in those cases that require restorative procedures prior to the commencement of Orthodontic treatment.
With the introduction of the CBCT scanning device and software, in adjunct with the PSP system of radiography, our Department can now provide definite and conclusive diagnosis regarding any doubtful cases, along with the scientific proof and evidence that it requires, by working in tandem with the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology.
We also provide single sitting RCT procedures, that is more feasible for patients where time is an essential factor, where they are unable to come for multiple sitting RCT. Eg. Overseas based patients. Such treatment procedures help the patient to accommodate the treatment time for the single sitting procedure into his/her busy schedule, while also ensuring that the treatment procedure is not compromised.
Our department also provides aesthetic treatment procedures for the more beauty conscious patients, such as tooth jewellery, tooth colored composite veneers and restorations, composite inlays, ceramic inlays, etc. Come under this branch of dentistry. In connection with this, our Department is planning to conduct an “Aesthetic awareness week”, highlighting the importance of aesthetics in dentistry, where the above mentioned treatments will be done on patients for a nominal fee.
In collaboration with the Department Of Prosthodontics, we undertake procedures such as post and core treatments, crowns- metal, metal-ceramic and ceramic crowns.
Utmost care is taken to ensure that every patient is provided the best treatment by following stringent infection control procedures, using newer instruments after every few cases, endodontic loupes are being used to enable the clinician to view the complex anatomy of the root canal clearly, and provide a fatigue free environment to the clinician. Open apex cases are treated using MTA, and cases such as blunderbuss canals are treated with the thermoplasticized guttapercha system. Rubber dam kits are being used to ensure that a sterile and infection free work environment is available at all times of the restorative/endodontic procedures.
In addition to these, we also provide treatment options such as inlays in those cases, where the patient has a large carious tooth on the proximal surfaces of the tooth, that cannot be restored using conventional methods of restoration alone.
The above mentioned comprises all the treatment procedures done in our Department in a nutshell.
