General Anatomy

The department of Anatomy was established in the year 2007. The department offers detailed study of Human Anatomy including Osteology, Embryology, Neuroanatomy, and Histology & Genetics for First year BDS students. The qualified and experienced faculties are trained in teaching and student evaluation.

Students can acquire immense knowledge about the structure of the human body in macroscopic, microscopic developmental and clinical aspects in the field of dentistry. The department helps to give a solid knowledge of anatomy of head and neck. It is essential for dental professionals to understand normal appearance as well as important landmarks during clinical examinations. We also provide dissection of cadavers, explanation of soft tissue, bones and well maintained museum, histology slides & microscopes are available. There are charts & models for regular small group discussions with students.

Programmes Offered

Educare Institute of Dental Sciences offers a Bachelor’s Degree and Master’s Degree programme in Dental Surgery. The Department of Anatomy provides detailed lectures for first year BDS and MDS students during their corresponding academic year.

Course Outcome

BDS

At the end of the 1st year BDS course in Anatomical Sciences the undergraduate student is expected to:

  1. Know the anatomical basis of disease and injury.
  2. Know the microscopic structure of the various tissues, a prerequisite for understanding of the disease processes.
  3. Have an idea about the basis of abnormal development, critical stages of development, genetic mutations and environmental hazards.
  4. Know the sectional anatomy of head neck and brain to read the features in radiographs and pictures taken by modern imaging techniques.
  5. To locate various structures of the body and to mark the topography of the living anatomy.
  6. To identify various tissues under a microscope.
  7. To detect various congenital abnormalities.

MDS

  • Know the normal disposition of the structures in the body while clinically examining a patient and while conducting clinical procedures
  • Know the nervous system to locate the site of lesions according to the sensory and or motor deficits encountered.
