Oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMFS) is one of the speciality of dentistry as always been the bridge between medicine and dentistry and it has focuses on the diagnosis, surgical treatment, and management of diseases and disorders of the face and jaws.
Our faculty are trained to treat trauma, orthognathic surgeries, congenital and acquired defects and disorders, facial infections of the head and neck region, as well as to perform extractions, placement of dental implants, dental anaesthesia and sedation.
The department of oral and maxillofacial surgery deals with the surgical management of various diseases, injury, and defects in and around the face and jaw bones.

Graduates should be able to efficiently diagnose and treat patient with surgical problems. Working knowledge of the range of surgical treatments. Understanding their limitations and knowing when to seek specialist intervention. Be able to arrive at a treatment option while taking into consideration the patient needs and requirements. Should know about common medical emergencies and their timely management and be trained in BLS. Diagnosing pathologic conditions and knowing their surgical management protocols. Well versed in referral letter framing to effective communication with specialists. Should be aware and oriented about medical ethics. Should be updated about commonly used drugs and effective systemic and local drug delivery. Should be well versed in the various lab investigations and where to requisition them. Confident in extraction of teeth. Should know about all measures required for haemostasis and wound closure.
The OMFS departments mission is to enable graduate students to perform dental extractions and minor surgical procedures under LA and to prevent, identify and manage any related complications effectively. Our graduate course assume to exposure the students to the common pathologic conditions in the oral and maxillofacial region and to treat minor injuries of the mouth and face. Graduates should be familiarized with certain inpatient protocols and have a basic understanding of surgical protocols in implantology. Communication skills and medicolegal responsibilities are imparted to the graduates.

DR AJAY KUMAR HARIDAS is Prof & HOD of department of oral and maxillofacial surgery. He has a great experience of Lecturing. Have scientific articles presentation and publications in various National and international journals. As a Professor, he is a recipient of many awards for his valuable contributions and discoveries in major area of research. He has 25 years of experience in guiding the under graduates and post graduate students. Under his guidance many post graduates have qualified and are well settled in the profession.

Our primary objective to produce a graduate who is competent in performing extraction of teeth and minor surgeries under both local and general anaesthesia, prevent and manage related complications, acquire knowledge regarding aseptic procedures, have reasonable understanding of management of infectious patients and prevention of cross infections, learn about basic life support, acquire a reasonable knowledge and understanding of the various diseases, injuries, infections occurring in the oral & maxillofacial region and offer solutions to such of those common conditions and has an exposure in to the in-patient management of maxillofacial problems and also to acquire reasonable knowledge regarding the surgical principals involved in implant placement and be able to communicate properly and understand medico legal responsibilities.
