Paediatric & Preventive Dentistry
Paediatric and Preventive Dentistry is the branch of dentistry that is concerned with the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of children, including those with special care needs, under one roof. Pediatric dentistry aims to provide quality education and treatment for children. Students at the undergraduate level are trained by imparting knowledge on understanding growth and development, psychology and behaviour from birth through adolescence and management of children. A UG student receives training for two and a half years, beginning with the third year of the BDS course and continuing until the final year, part II. Training in the form of pre-clinical exercises, clinical training on patients involves demonstrations of various treatment procedures, supervising and assisting the senior’s work, working on patients under the direct supervision of faculty, and finally working independently along with the presentation of case histories, submission of posters, seminars, and model work. Students are encouraged to actively participate in rural and urban outreach dental and oral health education, screening, and treatment camps.
